A WORD ABOUT US

Pastor Curtis L. Jackson, Sr. has been under the leadership of Bishop Barry D. Walker (the pastor of A Place of Refuge, Carrollton, GA ) since 1990.  Bishop Walker is a man of God who loves God’s people and desires for them to be productive in every area of life, which is the vision of A Place of Refuge.  In the spring of 1998 at the beginning of the annual street services, the Lord spoke to Bishop Walker and he instructed the ministers and elders of A Place of Refuge to pray and read the book of Acts and the Lord would speak to those who were obedient.  Pastor Jackson heeded the instruction of Bishop Walker and the Lord spoke to him about starting a bible study in the city of Thomaston, GA.  Prior to the Lord speaking to Pastor Jackson, the ministers and elders of A.P.O.R. visited Thomaston in hopes of finding a location for a future street service.  The Lord confirmed His word by speaking to Minister Contina Wonnum (now Mullins, and a former native of Thomaston) as He spoke to Pastor Jackson concerning the bible study as well as a location.  Pastor Jackson and Minister Mullins met with Bishop Walker regarding their mutual revelation from the Lord about the bible study.  Bishop Walker received the two in faith trusting they heard from the Lord and then instructed Pastor Jackson how to start the bible study.  With help from Minister Mullins, Sister Cynthia Corbin (also a native of Thomaston), the Evangelist Ministry from A.P.O.R. Carrollton, and First Lady Mary Jackson the bible study was formed August 18, 1998 in the community of Salem, which is approximately 20 minutes from Thomaston.  After a year in Salem the Lord instructed Pastor Jackson to move into the city of Thomaston.  The bible study was productive and in August 2001 A Place of Refuge, Thomaston was birthed.  Through the awesome leadership of Bishop Walker, A Place of Refuge, Thomaston is a DEBT FREE CHURCH!  A number of properties have been purchased in the city of Thomaston to be used for future expansions in addition to the new sanctuary.  There were many trials and difficult times during the process, but through the entire journey the Lord was with the congregation and brought them where they are today.  The ministry has continued to be productive in line with the vision the Lord gave  Bishop Walker.
